Shirt Dress of Sorrow 1

I really liked this dress from the Urban Outfitters sale section. It’s not ground-breaking, but it looks easy, and I like things that are easy.

Then I clicked through the different color swatches and noticed something strange.

I’m pretty sure that, upon wearing it, you instantly look 40% more miserable and/or surly.

I’ve commented on models and their choices before, but this is something else. This isn’t just an isolated model, this is a recurring theme with this dress. If this were from American Apparel, I’d say the miserable, “I’m not doing this by choice” look would just be part of the aesthetic. But it’s Urban Outfitters, and while the models don’t often look gleeful (or mystically serene) like the ModCloth models, they don’t normally look quite so miserable.

Seriously, did this dress kill their childhood pet? Is it lined with rusty nails? Or worse, really scratchy fabric?
Then again, if it can make me even halfway capable of giving such an epic “Bitch, please” look, count me in. I can deal with the rusty nail and broken glass lining if it means I can give a glance half as withering as this one.

I think it’s because, especially if paired with heels, this is a dress that screams “walk of shame” – walking home the morning after in an oversized male shirt with an oversized hangover and an oversized feeling of self hatred.
